Coloring the Hummingbird Sketch from my Colored Pencil Practice Coloring Book, Drawn to Life: Volume 2 – Bird Sketches.
The sketches help me focus on improving my coloring techniques through practice, study and observation.
As I work on the drawing, I focus on a small detail or section at a time while studying the reference image. But as an artist I also make my own adjustments to the drawing to make it my own. Making color choices to make my image more vibrant, omitting or adding certain details to make my version unique to me.
The thing I love about having these practice sketches is I don’t have to treat the drawing too delicately, I allow myself to experiment with different techniques, make mistakes, and figure out what works and what I would do differently next time.
The colored pencils used are Prismacolor Premier softcore colored pencils.
