Pattaya, Thailand

Pattaya, Thailand

Pattaya is a lot…It’s colorful, vibrant, and always bustling.  And I really mean always bustling, it doesn’t matter the time of day or night, this city truly does not sleep, there is always a business open.

Everywhere you look, every step you take there are businesses upon businesses.  Step into an alley?  There are businesses hidden there too.  In case you forgot about businesses, there are people lined up outside inviting you to come in. When you think you are standing in a place where there is no business…Wrong! the businesses can come to you as they are also mobile.

If I stand still long enough on a random road, soon enough random vendor bikes will roll up and I can buy clothes, drinks, fruits, meals, trinkets, or ice cream.  I needed a small towel one day, and as I was walking a bike full of towels rolled up. It’s kind of fun actually.

Oh, I almost forgot.  If you happen to look like a Thai woman, like me, try not to stand alone on the street corners in the evening taking pictures of the street.  Because people kept asking if I was working.  Like I was also a business.

For me, Pattaya was a lot of markets, street foods, cafes, cooling off by the pool, 7 Eleven runs,  and songthaew rides (those blue trucks that you can hop on and off). Shared stories with strangers, both tourists and locals, everyone here has a story. It’s a city equally full of hopes and dreams, and struggles and heartbreaks. It’s full of beauty and light, and ugly and darkness.  A true choose your own adventure kind of place.
