Hoi An, Vietnam

Hoi An, Vietnam

We only had a chance to spend a day in Hoi An, so didn’t have a chance to see and do many things that this beautiful ancient town had to offer. I think I could have spent a few days here.

The first thing we did when we arrived was rent bikes, and went biking along the river. We intended to do more biking through the town but it was so packed with tourists and foot traffic it was very slow moving. We often had to park the bikes and explore a bit on foot.

Eventually we made our way to the path along the river and biked away from the crowds.

I really wanted to bike to the rice fields but had trouble finding a path that did not involve biking in heavy traffic. In hindsight I should have researched this a bit more, so I didn’t get the pictures of water buffalos and rice fields that I wanted.

But we still very much enjoyed Hoi An. It really is beautiful and picturesque. There were so many incredible artisan shops with local handmade pottery, leatherwork, custom tailored clothing and shoes. The streets were also lined with beautiful cafes and restaurants with incredible views of the river.

If we had a few more days, I would have love to do more exploring and shopping.

There were also all sorts of workshops that I would have loved to join….like lantern making, pottery making, and woodworking.

Towards sunset we did have a chance to boat along the river and enjoyed watching the lanterns light up on the river and through the ancient town.
